Meet our Teaching Fellows

Sejong Takenaka is currently a Teaching Fellow in our English Department at Excel Academy High School.

When asked about his experience so far, he shared: “I became a Teaching Fellow to refine my teaching and grow as a teacher into someone that students would greatly benefit from. The Teaching Fellow role allowed me to ease my way into teaching and develop my skills at an excellent environment.

My experience so far at Excel has been great. It has one of the best supports in place for teachers that I’ve seen and great teachers to learn from.”

Chenemi Maji is currently a Teaching Fellow in our Science Department at Excel Academy Chelsea.

When asked about her experience so far, she shared: “When I initially came across this teaching fellowship position, I was excited by the possibility of working with a group of unique individuals towards a shared goal that I deeply believe in. I see education as an integral part of bridging the gap between marginalized members of society and the advancing world around us, especially in science and technology. So far, I have not been disappointed by my experience but have become even more passionate. I have important learning moments every single day.”

Kelsey Anderson is currently a Teaching Fellow in our History Department at Excel Academy High School.

When asked about her experience so far, she shared: “I came to the teaching fellow role as a way to transition into teaching from my past career in criminal justice. I was looking for an opportunity to try teaching and work in a school in a productive capacity to make sure teaching was the right job for me. So far it has been a really productive experience, and I have learned a lot about the actual how-to’s of teaching, and a lot of best practices. I really enjoy being able to shadow a teacher and become more familiar with the class before taking them on completely. There has also been a lot of good opportunity for feedback from multiple teachers and admin in very positive and constructive ways to help improve my own practice. I am really enjoying it so far, and I am looking forward to the rest of the year!”
