  • Why Invest in Excel Academy?

Excel Academy Charter Schools has a twelve-year track record of running a high-achieving inner-city network of public middle schools. Since our founding in 2003, Excel’s middle school students have consistently outperformed their peers from around the state, including students from more well-resourced communities, on the MCAS English and math exams. For each of the last seven years, our 8th grade students have been in the top five of all public schools on the MCAS, with five of those years as the top-performing across the Commonwealth. In 2015, our students were in the top 10 percent of all schools on the Common Core-aligned PARCC exams, including our special needs students.  No other public school in Massachusetts can speak as confidently about its success at the middle school level as Excel. Governor Baker readily accepted our offer to speak at this event last year because he knows the impact Excel Academy is having on its students and the broader discussion about quality public schools for all kids.

With 80 percent of our 600-plus students from low-income families and 78 percent identifying as Latino, Excel is closing the opportunity gap for the youth of East Boston and Chelsea whose educational opportunities are insufficient for college success. Over 60 percent of our college-age alumni are now persisting in college, on their way to earning a degree.

Our consistent middle school success is the foundation for our current organizational growth plans. In 2015, we launched our first public college-preparatory high school. Moving forward all Excel Academy students who attend our middle schools will be guaranteed a seat at our high school, through 12th grade. Our new high school building is currently under construction next to the East Boston Public Library, adjacent to the East Boston Greenway and Logan Airport. Thanks to the support of many individual and institutional donors, it will be completed in time for our students in summer 2016!

  • Supporting Excel Academy Makes Good Business Sense

Sponsors will contribute to the growth of our network, including by supporting our critical programmatic and operating expenses; the opening of our brand new high school facility; and the operations of our network that are not currently covered by public funding until our schools are fully enrolled and sustainable.

As a corporate sponsor, you will receive significant marketing value and placements at this event, which we expect will be sold out with 250+ people due to the historical success of this event. We will provide placements on our website, in our printed program, event signs, event slides, and mentions from the podium. We also welcome discussions around how your company can engage with us as we plan out the growth of our high school.

Excel Academy is preparing our students not only to achieve academically, but also to graduate from college and become productive citizens. Their success will be reinvested in their families and communities, including local businesses and society at large. We have already seen the impact Excel is having on its host communities of East Boston and Chelsea. Families recognize that attending Excel Academy will improve their children’s opportunities to attend and succeed in college. We hope you will be a part of it.

  • About the Event

The Celebration of Excellence (COE), Excel Academy’s flagship fundraising event, will bring together 250+ business and industry leaders, private supporters, board members, Excel teaching and administrative staff, Excel alumni, and current middle and high school students to the Exchange Conference Center, right along Boston Harbor, in the Seaport. Last year, Governor Charlie Baker was our special guest and reinforced his support for high-quality education options for all families across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, using Excel Academy as a prime example of what is possible.

The uplifting event will begin with an hour-long cocktail hour, and will be followed by a sit-down meal and program. The purpose of the event is to raise money to support Excel’s growth needs and to increase awareness of the impact Excel is having on its students, families, and communities. The evening demonstrates and tells stories of how our success is based on our nurturing environment built on exceptional teaching, high expectations, and collaboration among students, teachers, and families. The future of Boston lies in our young people, and your support is critical for Excel Academy to continue to enhance the lives of Boston’s youth and our communities.

The CEO of Excel Academy, Owen Stearns, will provide an update on the state of our organization as we prepare to launch our high school this fall and open a brand new building in East Boston paid for with private support next fall. We will also hear emotional stories from students and parents about how an Excel Academy education is changing the opportunities available to their families.

The evening promises to be fun and inspirational.
