Founded in 2003, Excel Academy is a network of high performing charter schools serving nearly 1,400 students in grades 5 through 12 in the communities of East Boston and Chelsea. Excel Academy’s mission is to prepare students to succeed in high school and college, apply their learning to solve relevant problems, and engage productively in their communities.
A student who gets into Excel through our blind lottery is 4X as likely to graduate from college as a student attending a comparable district school.
To date, Excel Academy 12th graders have been accepted into Harvard, Princeton, Boston University, UMASS- Amherst, Spelman, Providence College and many more. Despite earning these acceptances too often financial barriers still prevent students from attending.
The average cost of attending one year of a public four year university is $20,090 for in-state tuition. In addition to this there are many costs associated with gaining access to college that are not covered by financial aid. Over 80% of Excel Academy students come from low-income families, where often a family of 4 is living on less than $40K per year. These additional costs can create significant challenges for our families and even prevent students from attending. You can help.
Come support Excel Academy’s Scholarship Fund at a fun filled night of Trivia at Clerys in Back Bay.
The event starts at 7pm. Please arrive by 7:30pm to ensure your team is signed up for trivia, which is run by Clerys.

Trivia Night Admission Ticket: $25
Purchase of one ticket supports the Excel Academy Scholarship Fund and gets you a seat and drink ticket.
Team Trivia Night Admission Ticket: $100
Purchase of a team ticket supports the Excel Academy Scholarship Fund and gets you up to 6 seats and drink tickets.
Additional Support for the Excel Academy Scholarship Fund
All additional donations include admission for up to 6 people and 1 drink ticket per person for the event.
Sponsor a Book Scholarship: $125
A $125 donation will support an Excel Academy graduate with the purchase of a textbook in their first semester of college.
Sponsor a College Deposit Scholarship: $500
When a student earns admission to college, they must pay a cash deposit which is not covered by financial aid to hold their spot. A $500 donation will support an Excel Academy student with their deposit payment.
Sponsor A Last Dollar Scholarship: $1,000
Each semester, Excel Academy awards last dollar scholarships to alumni to close the gap between financial aid offered by a college and the cost of attendance. As little as $1,000 can be the difference between a student going to college or not. You can support a student’s college journey by closing this gap.
Sponsor a Summer at Brown or Northeastern Scholarship: $1,500
Each summer, Excel Academy sends a selection of 10th and 11th grade students to take college courses at Brown and Northeastern University. For many this will be their first experience living away from home in preparation for college. A $1500 donation provides one student with the opportunity to attend this program increasing their chances of college acceptance, persistence, and graduation. In previous years, one of our students who attended Brown via this scholarship was accepted into Brown class of 2023 – help us create more stories like this.
