Excel Academy Charter Schools

Excel Academy Rhode Island is a tuition-free, charter public school that opened for 5th grade in the 2022-2023 school year, serving students from Providence, North Providence, and Central Falls.

We present our students with educational experiences that enable them to grow and discover their best selves, so that when they leave our halls, they can successfully navigate all the post-secondary options available to them. Our theory of change has remained consistent: when a student has the support and tools to pursue a productive post-secondary pathway aligned with personal identity and values, it can fundamentally change their life trajectory.

We support youth in growing and discovering who they are through rigorous, anti-racist, and identity-affirming academic curricula. When the whole child excels, our community excels. Excel Academy’s students have achieved remarkable success at the middle and high school levels. Excel Academy students have consistently been ranked as top performers, “Meeting or Exceeding Expectations” on state exams.

About Charter Schools

Charter schools are public, tuition-free schools that families choose for their children.

They operate independently under a performance contract that outlines their mission and goals, but remain accountable for academic results and financial stability.

Funding is provided on a per-pupil basis with public dollars, though in many states, charter schools receive less than traditional district schools and often no facility funding. In Massachusetts, charter schools are overseen by the Department of Elementary, (DESE), and in Rhode Island, by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE).

What I love most about Excel Academy Charter School is that all three of my children were shown how much potential they had. They were supported in ways that were unique to them whether that was with their individual learning challenges or encouraging them to push themselves even further.
