Impact Story

Excel Never gave up on my son

I am the proud father of two Excel Academy students. One of my children graduated from Excel Academy Charter High School this past spring and now works for the federal government, and the other is an 11th grader at Excel. I also serve on Excel’s Board of Trustees. As we head into the new year, I’ve been reflecting on what Excel has meant for my family, and why I hope you’ll join me in supporting this incredible community.

Like all parents, I want the very best for my children. As they approached middle school, I searched for a school that would challenge them, prepare them, and put college or meaningful career pathways within reach.

“Excel impressed me from Day One. I knew my sons were in the right place.”

The discipline, the expectations, and the communication. Everything felt intentional. At first, my oldest struggled, but over time, those expectations shaped him into a more disciplined, confident student. I saw firsthand how Excel prepares young people for the real world.

But nothing showed me Excel’s commitment more than what happened during COVID. One of my sons has autism and was among the first students in Excel’s ROSE program (now LEEP). Remote learning was incredibly challenging for him. I worried that I would have to leave my job in order to support him at home.

Instead, Excel stepped in. Literally. Staff came to our home, wearing gowns, masks, and shields, delivering physical therapy and academic materials in our driveway and home so he could continue learning.
I couldn’t believe we were receiving those services at home.

Excel never gave up on my son.

Excel has supported my sons from fifth grade through high school, and they will continue supporting them for six years after graduation. As a parent, that level of commitment means everything to me.

Donor generosity allows Excel to provide individualized services, post-secondary counseling, over $125K in scholarships annually, and the type of care that transforms lives. I can personally tell you that every dollar truly makes a difference.
