Diane CohenDirector of Development and Communications
Diane joined Excel Academy in 2019, bringing more than 15 years of experience in education and nonprofit management. Before joining, she directed a multi-million dollar grant on teacher preparation for the New York City Department of Education. In this role, Diane’s work included a broad range of development, instructional, and policy initiatives including; teacher development, teacher preparation, and state and city policy design aimed at creating more equitable educational experiences across the city’s 1,700+ schools. Previously, she served as the Policy Manager for Teach Plus Massachusetts where she provided thousands of teachers with opportunities to make an impact for their students on issues such as teacher preparation, equity, standards, and assessment. She also founded the organization’s teacher-led professional learning program. She started her career as a Social Studies teacher in Virginia. Diane holds a B.A. from Eastern Mennonite University and an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia Curry School of Education.
