It is in all of our interest to have ongoing conversations surrounding teaching and learning at Excel. We are a community of teachers but also a community of learners. Sharing struggles, successes and best practices with each other ultimately contributes to building a positive and supportive professional working environment.
With our unique organizational structure, Excel instructional staff are afforded the opportunity to receive ongoing professional development and coaching from the school Principal who serves as the primary instructional coach and leader in the building. All core instructors receive a full 50 minutes of direct observation by the school Principal once every two weeks followed by an additional 50 minutes of one-on-one feedback and discussion to reflect on instructional delivery, curriculum design, and classroom management. All non-instructional staff receive similar support and coaching from their direct managers to ensure that they are consistently improving their talents and are growing as professionals. This ongoing support has created an adult culture in which staff feel both professionally supported and intellectually stimulated, resulting in rigorous academic programming for students and a dynamic professional environment for staff.
