About Us

History

Excel was created to offer a tuition-free, public middle school alternative to students in East Boston and Chelsea. In order to address the severe academic underperformance and low college matriculation rates of students from these communities, the school offers a highly rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum supported by a structured school culture.

Excel Academy Charter School received its charter from the Massachusetts Department of Education in February of 2003, and we opened our doors to our first class of students in September of 2003. Now in our fifth year of successful operation, we are serving approximately 200 fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
